BLACKi is an improvisational group that has been meeting since the 80s, initially as an alter ego to 2i performances. The name comes from the 2i band’s mascot dog icon. Over 100 different musicians have been participants in a BLACKi experience at one time or another.

The philosophy of BLACKi is unyielding, wherein each meeting and interaction provides a new musical outcome, either of aggressive melody or challenging sound. The goal is to avoid the familiar, and in the end it is the sound of surprise.

Daniel Kaniess was a founding member of BLACKi.  Daniel last performed live with BLACKi in November, 2011.  The BLACKi collective continues to this day with members old and new.
